Lord Mantis proudly uses Dunlop Guitar Strings. It’s taken a lot of trial and error over the years to figure out the right tension and string gauges required to play the bizarre tuning we play. We’ve nailed it down and now get our custom Super Bright sets from Dunlop. These are the best strings. To the curious of what those gauges are: 10, 14, 18, 30, 42, 74 coinciding with a 25.5 scale guitar and 3L3R tuning pegs. Yes a 74, ftw.
We’ve recently landed a new booking agency with Continental Concerts. We’re also in talks with agents overseas at this time. Looking forward to seeing fans and playing vicious performances in 2016!
The new record is still being finalized in the art and layout area. A final master is sitting in our lap. A record rushed yet flawed will quickly be forgotten, but a record formidable in all areas will stand the test of time even if revealed some time later. Please understand, art takes time.
Two new shirts, a long sleeve, and thongs are in stock. All the new designs are in reference to songs and themes off the Nice Teeth Whore EP recorded, recently mastered, and being released by New Density. Check New Density for more info!
Lord Mantis recorded a new EP a few weeks back in May at Bricktop Recording and with engineer Andy Nelson (Weekend Nachos, Like Rats). We’ve decided to call it Nice Teeth Whore which is also the title of one of the tracks from this 4 song EP clocking in just under 23 minutes. We dabbled with the idea of shooting for a full-length again, but a quick and serious right hook kind of made more sense in every way. It was also super fun. Honestly the songs we recorded are so saturated with intent it almost feels like a full-length.
New Density is a new label run and managed by guitar player Andrew Markuszewski. Lord Mantis is using it as its main front for merch and release support. The last Lord Mantis album, Death Mask, was licensed from Profound Lore and released by ND on 2LP last year. Nice Teeth Whore will be pressed as a vinyl EP and MCD Digipack through ND. Digital downloads will be available too. Check out New Density for more release specific information in the coming weeks. The EP is currently in line for mastering.
Manuel Tinnemans of Comaworx is working on the cover artwork. Brianvdp has also come up with this sick and twisted Mantis thingy, and the theme seems to be “give a god a bone”. The idea of it sort of being what Eddie is to Iron Maiden. Expect it to turn up randomly on merch and records in the future.
Anastasios Ketsios of Image Collective and from Chicago hung out with us for a few days at Bricktop and took a shit load of photos. Posted are some great shots of the band at work. Many more are also available for viewing on our facebook page.
Lord Mantis has gone through a purgatory this winter but now steps out into the light again. This is part of the reason why the last tour with TITD had to be cut short and our appearance at Roadburn 2015 was cancelled. Now we have a new lineup in place. Dylan O’Toole (who has contributed lyrically and also performs vocals in the studio on songs for the past two records Death Mask and Pervertor) is no longer an unofficial 5th member of the band. He is now the vocalist. Will Lindsay (who also played guitar in Indian with Dylan and Bill Bumgardner) is now the bassist. Will also had a guest spot on Death Mask in the studio. To say there hasn’t been a major crossover between the Chicago bands Lord Mantis and Indian over the years would be a ridiculous statement. Indian and Lord Mantis shared the same rehearsal room together at Superior Street Studios in Chicago since the devil knows when. Scott Shellhamer, musician and artist of the band American Heritage, has also joined on guitars. The original founding member of Lord Mantis from 2005 Bill Bumgardner remains along with lead guitarist Andrew Markuszewski who has been in the band since 2008. Greg Gomer (also one of the two founding members along with Bill) hasn’t been in Lord Mantis since Pervertor which is the last record he was a part of. Greg has planned on contributing as a guest spot on the future recording currently in plan. Ken Sorceron and Charlie Fell are no longer members of Lord Mantis.
The ship has righted itself and in a very natural fashion. Even with the new lineup at this time, Lord Mantis will not be appearing at Roadburn and the subsequent tour in Europe. An EP is being worked on already to be recorded this Spring. There are no shows being booked at this time until further notice. More news on the EP and further plans for 2015 by Lord Mantis is soon to come.
All merch is back online and ready for orders once again including a few new shirt designs and restock of the Veinen shirt. Gold/Black Death Mask preorders are en route and expected late next week.

We understand the west coast states frustration at us not traveling through there. Trust us we are working on this. Currently we also have a run down to Florida in August around our appearance at Southern Darkness Fest that’s being ironed out. Beyond that we are in talks with our future touring for later this summer and into the fall and of course getting back to Europe.
Joining us for the record release show April 25th at Cobra Lounge is Abigail Williams, Murmur and Terminate. This is a late show with doors at 9 pm, and remember it’s not far down the street from the House of Blues since we all know the Metal Alliance tour comes through town on the 25th. Fortunately that show is all ages and follows the early curfew of House of Blues. So if you’re still planning on going to that show, know that you should be able to still catch all the bands on the bill at Cobra Lounge after the Behemoth set. You’ll probably run into members of bands from that other show at ours as well.
Don’t be a flake. Make it a serious night of metal attendance. Our new songs fucking rip, and we’ve got a surprise waiting for you… don’t forget to bring your girlfriend.
